The Space
Welcome to the Cubhouse, where you can shop, play and learn in a beautiful space that is developmentally appropriate and enriching. Everything at The Cubhouse has been thought through to be sustainable, non-toxic and earth-friendly wherever possible.
Sustainable, Eco-Friendly & Non-Toxic
As we created The Cubhouse, we’ve thought not only of the health of you and your family but also the planet!
From the very beginning of our building and design process, we have chosen our materials carefully. Our flooring is Greenguard Gold certified and our paint has virtually zero VOCs. We filter our drinking water with a Sans water filter which removes a range of harmful metals, chemicals, plastics and other contaminants. We’ve also added Austin Air purifiers to our space to filter out viruses, bacteria, dust, dander and allergens as well as chemicals, gases and odors. Wherever possible, we have chosen sustainable materials and products that are not only high quality but as eco-friendly as possible.
Child-led, open ended approach to play
At The Cubhouse, we are creating a learning environment that emphasizes child-led and open-ended play.
In this way, we are fostering imagination, encouraging independent learning and developing creative problem solving skills - important tools our littles will require to be successful human beings.
Our approach prioritizes the freedom for children to explore, create, and discover at their own pace. By embracing this philosophy, we empower children to develop critical thinking skills, creativity, and a lifelong love for learning. In our space, we celebrate the joy of discovery and the endless possibilities of child-led play.
Curated retail items and play space
Moving on to our retail items and play space.
Everything for sale has been hand selected by me, Christine! Many items are those that I already have, love and would recommend to my close friends and family - I have usually done hours of research before deciding on them for myself. When researching, I place priority on all things eco-friendly, non-toxic and Montessori-based, which is how the concept for The Cubhouse was inspired and developed. I also try to make sure everything is cute, haha!
The Story
Hi, I’m Christine! A little bit about me and my background…
My family is from South Korea and I was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. I got my BA in Business Management and Organizational Studies just outside of Toronto (met my husband there, too) and then moved to London UK to study to be a teacher.
Fun fact: In kindergarten, my teachers asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up and I said a teacher, a witch or Santa Claus!
Anyway, I was in London for about 10 years, where I taught as a classroom teacher, progressed to Head of Early Years and studied for my Masters in Early Years Education. I have always loved working with the littlest of kids so I loved all of this - it was just so much fun.
This is where my dreams of opening up my own nursery school, day care or early learning center began, alongside my long time dream of starting a family! Then, kind of suddenly, my husband’s job took us to NYC.
In New York, I worked a little bit as a preschool teacher, got certified in baby, kids & family yoga and after going through the “lovely” journey of IVF we celebrated the arrival of our first baby, Willa!
Almost exactly 18 month later, sweet little Lincoln came along! We moved our family to Greenwich, CT in 2021 and we love raising our family in this amazing town.
As a new mama in Greenwich, I tried out lots of different kids classes, went to lots of different kids play spaces and even taught some baby and kids yoga classes in my backyard!
I realized that perhaps Greenwich could use something like The Cubhouse. It is a concept that I am so passionate about and I haven’t really been able to find anything quite like it here. A place that prioritizes sustainable, earth-friendly and non-toxic materials. A place that offers high quality classes and puts our children’s health and well-being first and foremost. An inclusive environment that is welcoming to anyone and everyone who steps in the door.
So, after lots of late night chats with my husband, friends and family, I decided, I guess I’ll do it, and so here I am! I am so happy you’re here too and can’t wait to welcome you into our little cubhouse community!
